Trump Issues Stark Warning, Demanding Strait of Hormuz Reopening by Tuesday

The President’s escalating threat involves potential destruction of critical infrastructure if Iran fails to comply with his ultimatum.

US President Donald Trump has presented Iran with an immediate and severe demand: the complete reopening of the Strait of Hormuz by 8:00 PM Eastern Time on Tuesday, April 7th (midnight GMT on April 8th). This action, if unmet, would involve the targeted demolition of the nation’s power plants and bridge systems. This unprecedented step follows a previous declaration on March 21st, where Trump initially threatened attacks on Iranian power plants, setting a 48-hour deadline. Subsequent extensions have been granted by the President, contingent on purported progress in ongoing negotiations, despite Iranian assertions that direct discussions are absent. While specific locations have not been publicly identified, the President’s statements suggest a widespread assault on Iranian infrastructure. Damage has already occurred with a US-Israeli strike against the B1 bridge near Karaj, a significant transportation artery west of Tehran, which was slated for inauguration. Legal analysts contend that such actions constitute “collective punishment,” a violation of international laws governing warfare. Iran possesses a diverse energy portfolio, including hundreds of power plants strategically positioned across the country. These facilities are concentrated in western regions, particularly around major population centers like Tehran, Mashhad, and Isfahan, and along the Gulf Coast, near key gasfields and ports. Notably, the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, Iran’s only nuclear facility, is a particular concern, having been repeatedly targeted, prompting warnings of potential radioactive contamination. Hydropower generation also plays a role, with dams concentrated along the Karun River. Power generated from these sources is managed by Iran Grid Management Company, supplying electricity to cities and industries throughout the nation.
