US Airman Rescued After Fierce Firefight Following Downed F-15E

A US military pilot, missing since the shootdown of an F-15E fighter jet, was recovered from Iran following a significant armed encounter.

A United States crew member, identified as a colonel, has been successfully rescued after being missing following the Iranian downing of a US F-15E fighter jet on Friday. President Donald Trump announced the recovery, coinciding with his imposition of a 48-hour ultimatum demanding the opening of the Strait of Hormuz. This waterway, subject to an Iranian blockade stemming from perceived US-Israeli aggression, has become a focal point in escalating tensions. The rescue operation transpired after a “heavy firefight” involving hundreds of US special forces, according to a government source. The crew member, the second of the two pilots from the downed aircraft, was recovered following a period of intense conflict. Iranian media reported further casualties, noting that strikes in the southwest region of Iran resulted in the deaths of five individuals during the rescue attempt. Iranian authorities, specifically the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), asserted responsibility for shooting down a US MQ-9 Reaper drone while it was conducting surveillance in the Isfahan region. The IRGC’s Telegram channel displayed images of smoke rising from a field, framing the event as a rebuke to President Trump’s demands. Further attacks attributed to US-Israeli forces resulted in casualties in Ardabil province, near Iran's border with Azerbaijan, and prompted the evacuation of 200 personnel from the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant due to concerns about radioactive contamination. A senior Iranian security official indicated that Tehran was proceeding with its strategic plans, possessing a “specific target bank,” and threatened a significant, unforeseen response to the US and Israel. The situation remains volatile, with ongoing reports of Iranian military activity and a heightened risk of escalation in the region.
