While high-level negotiations unfolded in Islamabad, with Pakistan’s mediation efforts ultimately leading to a tentative agreement, a separate and alarming event unfolded surrounding Gharida Farooqi, a female anchorperson for GTV News. A photograph of her wearing a green cord-set suit went viral on social media, immediately triggering a barrage of derogatory remarks and abusive comments. The incident highlighted the vulnerability of female journalists to online harassment, particularly during times of geopolitical tension.
The chaos surrounding the negotiations at the Jinnah Convention Center in Islamabad amplified the harassment directed at Farooqi. Social media buzzed with commentary regarding logistical details, branding, and, most notably, her attire. Mutilated images and AI-generated videos depicting her were circulated, escalating the attack into a coordinated cybercrime campaign. Recognizing the severity of the situation, Farooqi swiftly filed a complaint with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), simultaneously gathering evidence to identify those responsible.
