Researchers have discovered that these supplements, often touted for their protective benefits, may actually interfere with the brain’s natural healing process. The findings, published in the journal Cell Reports, highlight a previously unknown vulnerability in the brain’s response to omega-3 fatty acids. The research, led by neuroscientist Onder Albayram, Ph.D., focuses on the biological processes involved in repairing blood vessels in the brain after injury. Growing interest in omega-3 fatty acids—found in fish oil—has seen a surge in popularity, with supplements appearing in a wider range of products.
